Chris Reilly

I work in the ancient medium of encaustic, molten beeswax mixed with pigment and natural resin over watercolor and gesso.

My subject is flora and fauna within a landscape that is constantly growing dissolving and preserving itself. Working with wax I can add and subtract layers of wax with heat. As each painting goes through its process I scrape to reveal colors and light of the previous layers. I often paint creatures that transform such as butterflies and dragonflies and the plants that host them.
